Bob Sumner has been hiking throughout the western United States for more than 30
years, and has ascended over 1900 mountains, including over 500 in Nevada.

Bob holds a B.S. in Business
Administration from California State Polytechnic University, Pomona, and has worked in the computer industry
for over 25 years. He currently lives in Hawthorne, Nevada, and on any given weekend can be found exploring
the remotest regions of the Silver State.
Bob’s favorite hiking areas in
Nevada are Great Basin National Park, the Carson Range (Sierra Nevada), and the Toiyabe
His mountain adventures include over
200 ascents in the High Sierra, where he enjoys marathon and ultra-marathon dayhikes throughout the summer.
Bob has also climbed most of the Oregon Cascades, and has done the peaks for the Mazamas Guardian Award.
Some of his favorite ultra-dayhikes
include the Loowit Trail around Mount St. Helens (33 miles), the Three Sisters Round-The-Mountains loop in
Central Oregon (43 miles), the Grand Canyon Rim-to-Rim-to-Rim in Arizona (44 miles), and the Ruby Crest Trail
in northeastern Nevada (44 miles). Bob has also done the Toiyabe Crest Trail in central Nevada and was the
9th person to finish the Tahoe Rim Trail.

include the Highland Ridge Route in Great Basin National Park, a marathon hike around Crater Lake’s rim in
Oregon, and the Gabrielino and Silver Moccasin Trails in Southern California.
